Short Message Service (SMS)

Text messaging, or texting, is the act of typing and sending a brief, electronic message between two or more mobile phones or fixed or portable devices over a phone network. While the original term was derived from referring to messages sent using the Short Message Service (SMS) originated from Radio Telegraphy, it has since been extended to include messages containing image, video, and sound content (known as MMS messages). The sender of a text message is known as a texter, while the service itself has different colloquialisms depending on the region: it may simply be referred to as a text in North America, Australia, the Philippines and the United Kingdom, an SMS in most of mainland Europe, and a TMS or SMS in the Middle East and Asia.

Deaf and Dumb

"Deaf and dumb" (or even just "dumb", when applied to deaf people, who do not speak) is an archaic term that is considered offensive.
Many Deaf people do not use a spoken language, thus they are technically "mute". The word "dumb" has at least an archaic meaning that means "mute". Of course, the word "dumb" also has another more common meaning now that implies stupidity, which is certainly not applicable to most Deaf people.

Given the long history of deafness, and the fact that Deaf people have been incorrectly assumed to be mentally deficient just because they do not speak, you can imagine that most Deaf people do not appreciate being called "Deaf and Dumb".

Jay explained about Globe warns of new text scam

MANILA, Philippines - Published Jan 31, 2013 Globe Telecom, Inc. on Tuesday advised postpaid subscribers to be cautious of text scams which entice people by telling them they can get discounts or rebates on their monthly bills. "Subscribers are requested to validate unusual texts and calls especially if they do not come from official four-digit Globe numbers," the telco firm said in a statement. "Texts and calls of this nature have a primary motive of asking for personal information, soliciting money or prepaid load, or using your account to purchase items online." One of those circulating "promo" messages reads: GLOBE Postpaid: Congrats! You're the one selected postpaid plan given P150 discount billing, to get your P150 discount billing just text 150 send to 2916XXXXXXX. Globe stressed that adding a "2" before the 10-digit mobile number of the recipient results in a Share-A-Load transaction, which means the victim would have transferred the amount to the scammer after pressing the "Send" button. "It is best not to respond, and immediately report suspicious texts or calls to authorized Globe customer service channels," the firm said.

BLITAB is a tablet-style device for blind people and for those who suffer from impaired vision. It is like an electronic book, which instead of using a screen for visualizing the text, uses small physical bubbles.
