Duterte wants Malacañan Palace renamed 'People's Palace'
August 25, 2016, By Ruth Abbey Gita
PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte revealed Thursday that he has plans to rename Malacañan Palace to "People's Palace."
"That's not palace. That was once used to be like that at the time those [colonizers] went here and made us slaves – the Spanish and American people. Call it Malacañan Palace, I only call it The People's Palace," Duterte said.
Duterte had announced that the Malacañan Palace will be open to the public.

Are ghosts really haunting Malacañang?
October 31, 2016 by Ruth Abbey Gita
Malacañang Palace, with its grandiose structure, is believed to house not only the country’s highest top official but also many supernatural forces.
Spine-tingling eerie stories – unwelcome presence of dead presidents and other elements – still dogged Malacañang Palace to date.
At least one of the Palace’s current employees, Beldad Gantalao, could attest to the spooky tales in the President’s official residence.

This peaceful spot carries the weight of Martial Law memories
There are signs that this is no ordinary park, though: near the entrance stands a 14-meter-tall monument of a woman stretching her left hand up to the sky and her right hand holding a fallen man.
On a tarp amid the tree branches runs the words “Never Again, Never Forget.” And, at the end of the grassy expanse in the interior grounds is a long granite wall bearing hundreds of names.

The Boat People Museum

was set up to commemorate the former Philippine Refugee Processing Center in Morong, Bataan which was used in 1980-1994 as a temporary resettlement and preparation area for boat refugees from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. The Museum is about the story of suffering, people diaspora, and the triumph of the human spirit. It is about compassion, cooperation among various peoples, NGOs and governments, and about the United Nations. It is a story which unfortunately repeats itself. Yet there are small untold heroes. The Museum was set up with meager funds and volunteer help, mainly from those who were involved earlier as employees of the camp. Photos and small memorabilia were gathered from the villagers, as well as from visitors. An authentic boat that was used in the migration was refurbished and is a real monument to this period.
