A little serious of our mind:

Try to imagine, that your grandchildren can´t speak with you in your language......

Learn your family the language of the roots, so your family - children can speak their language from childhood!

Learn your family the culture of the roots, so your family understand and respect the roots e.g. Mano Po!

Wanted: Bikes, boats for students in far-flung areas

Education Secretary Armin Luistro urges local government units to add bicycle lanes for students, and to ensure safety standards for students who will ride in boats.

Walking to school is probably a good idea if your school is right across the street, and not a few kilometers away.

Many children in far-flung areas in the Philippines have to walk up to 2 hours just to get to school. Worse, there are students in some communities who have to swim – in full school uniform – across rivers because of their desire to study.

Quezon's Code of Citizenship and Ethics

On August 19, 1939, the occasion of his 61st birthday, President Manuel L. Quezon issued Executive Order No. 217 that prescribed a set of civic and ethical precepts collectively known as the Code of Citizenship and Ethics to be taught in all schools in the Philippines.

The list, a product of a committee composed of leading jurists and political luminaries organized by the President, would eventually be turned into a 71-page volume, complete with historical anecdotes and references to the virtues Filipinos have displayed throughout the years. In a letter to the President printed as a preface to the book, the Committee wrote, “The life of a nation depends upon the moral and civic virtue of its citizens. Now, more than ever, when nations, great and small, are on the verge of collapse do we realize this fundamental truth.” Video published on Aug 18, 2014

Traditional Birth Attendants in ARMM

This is a segment in the UNFPA 6th Country Programme Video Report which shows the new role of our Traditional kumadrona or hilot. Study showed that, sadly, old practices significantly account for deaths of mothers and/or babies. Thus, our Traditional Hilots or Kumadrona have to be given a new orientation as health partners and are now called Traditional Birth Attendants giving due respect to their role in the community and their age-old knowledge which can still be useful.
